The first “New Look” General Motors Corp. transit buses in the Buffalo area were received by the Buffalo Transit Company in March, 1960, almost nine months prior to Niagara Fontier Transit’s first order. Originally numbered 340 through 349, they were renumbered 700-709 in 1963 by NFT when the formerly separate BTC division was integrated into the larger NFT. Nine remained in service until 1978, while the tenth was converted into yet another vault bus and operated until 1989.

Grand Island Transit 74 was a 1960 GMC suburban model SDM-4501. It was photographed behind the company headquarters at 200 Broadway in Buffalo in June, 1973. The building was originally a horse car barn but also served for many years as the main office of the original Buffalo Transit Company. GIT sold the property in 1974, and the building was demolished in 2003. Bus 74 was sold to NFT Metro in 1975 and remained in service until replaced by new GMC Suburban-type coaches in 1976.
