ALLYOOP Racing's History

Last updated May 15th, 2007

ALLYOOP Racing started midway through the 1996 season. At the time the team consisted of Greg and his wife Allyson. We managed to make only a handful of races that year.

The 1997 season started well, but a serious crash in July caused us to miss several weeks. The rest of the season never amounted to much. We finished 31st in points. Dan joined the team that year replacing Allyson who is on baby furlough, indefinitely.

The 1998 season was very tough going. Rarely had a week gone by that we weren’t collected in some mishap. Anthony joined us this year and although young, scrawny and gullible, has become quite an asset. This addition, promoted Dan to chief of one. We finished the season 23rd in points and by some miracle, performed by Anthony (1998 track notes), we were invited to the Eastern States weekend race. We reskinned and repainted for the occasion. It all paid off with a 7th place finish.

The 1999 season started with high hopes. We were shooting for top 15 in points. Over the winter we decided to go for a more aerodynamic body. Things were going well, we were about 14th in points, until our luck ran out. After a head-on into the front stretch wall, we were out for awhile and we never got things going well enough to climb back up the standings. I ended up finishing my own season, with two weeks to go. I finished 22nd in the points and was again invited to Eastern States weekend. The car however was in no condition to go. We did however, learn alot about the car and how to change the handling from week to week. How things change, a year ago we finished 23rd in points and we celebrated. This year we finished one place higher and we are very disappointed. Adding to this it looks like we are losing Anthony. He is on the verge of having his own car.

The 2000 season was a bust! First, we lost Anthony. He got his own car. He will be sorely missed. Second, I have had enough of DIRT and OCFS. I don't have enough room to list why they both SUCK! I decided to try out Kauneonga speedway. What a nice operation they have there. The people are great and they really take care of both the drivers and the fans. Unfortunately, we were unable to go more than one night due to my stupidity. I blew the engine up first time out. Since I have been running on a shoestring budget for the last two years, I couldn't afford to fix it.

The 2001-2004 seasons were spent at home.

The 2005 season started at the end of the racing season with a new car and no experience in the new class.

The 2006 season was a struggle throughout the year. We spent many hours trying to figure out how to set up the new car without much success. Finally, John Lutes happened along and put us on the right track.

TEAM    The ALLYOOP Racing team's name came from combining the nicknames of Greg's wife, Allyson (ALLY) and his son, Connor (OOP).

Greg    Is a 2nd generation driver, who grew up in western New York, he worked on his father’s cars until he joined the navy in 1980 at 17. Nine years later, after getting out of the service and settling near Middletown, he started getting the fever. He selected a 1977 Ford Thunderbird for his car. Reasons for his choice: He found one for $100 , his father had a 1972 Cougar racecar, and there was only one Ford street stock at Middletown.

Dan    Joined the team in 1997. Dan had never been to a race before that. Realizing he knew nothing about dirt street stock cars, he started reading. By the time 1998 came around he at least knew where to put the gas. But being a quick learner was able to provide a little more help and by the end of the year we are talking about building a new car. Who knew?

Anthony    We lost him to his own team!

You    We have a lot of fun, so could you! Send me an email if you'd like see racing from the inside.
