Purchasing Firearms; On the internet.

If you are interested in purchasing firearms you see on the Saratoga Shotgun Shop website or any of the websites on the internet, you may well be able to do so.

Keep in mind that you will have to comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws.

Exactly what are these laws? We don't know, and, if we did, we would not be in a position to offer legal advice. After all we are not attorney's, and there are many local ordinances.

However, in general, the guidelines listed below are intended to assist you in determining FOR YOURSELF whether and/or how you CAN legally purchase firearms you see on the internet:

Contact a local gunshop or other "federal firearms licence" holder. Most if not all storefront shop are so licenced, and many gunsmiths are licenced as part of their business. You can find out if they are licenced just by asking. A good place to start would be in the Shooters' GunShops directory.

Generally, in order to take possession of a firearm, it must be physically transferred to you by an "FFL" dealer (i.e., you will have to go to his place of business and pick it up).

Generally, any "FFL" dealer must do a background check on you. He does this by (a) having you fill out a one page form (including name, address, drivers licence, social security number, affirmation that you have not been convicted of a felony, etc.); and (b) telephoning a central clearinghouse to confirm that you are not ineligible according to federal records (usually this takes only a few minutes, can be done while you are completing your purchase, and will cost you a few dollars;$10 is our price for that service, $15 for a pistol because of the additional New York State paperwork).

Generally, you will have to go through the so-called "Brady check" every time you purchase a firearm.

If you want to have a firearm shipped to you from another state, it MUST be shipped to an FFL dealer. You must then go and pick it up from him, filling out the forms and undergoing a "Brady check", and normally paying him a small transfer fee to make it worth his time and effort.

Certain firearms are exempt from certain laws. In general, firearms manufactured before 1898 and "muzzle-loading" firearms are subject to less restrictive laws than modern firearms.

In some states it is legal to transfer firearms to another individual within the same state without going through the transfer process described above; however, YOU MUST SEEK LEGAL ADVICE ON THIS MATTER IN LIGHT OF YOUR OWN SPECIFIC SITUATION, and YOU MAY NOT RELY ON Saratoga Shotgun Shop, or B & T Inc. FOR LEGAL ADVICE.

It is NEVER legal to transfer a firearm to any person who would not otherwise clear a Brady check or in contravention of any applicable federal, state or local law.

Based upon the above, it is important to realize that the internet is a means of communicating information and data only. The physical transfer of firearms is regulated and controlled, in the United States, by federal, state, and local laws, which make it impossible legally to "buy guns over the internet".This service is provided for you to see what is available in our store, and contact us about a purchase.
