Things To Do Within Your Schools - Ideas To Cultivate
Celebrate the Positive - Reward children for Acts of Kindness (certificates with children's photos and good deeds listed). Perhaps children can give certificates out to their peers and teachers as well.
Have art contests - children create bookmarks promoting friendship and peace.
Have children make posters and decorate the school hallways.
Essay Contests - What Does Peace Mean To Me? or What Would It Be Like Living in a World of Non-Violence?
Create a Non-Violent Super Hero - What nonviolent powers would this super hero have to promote peace?
Have Debates - How can you get your point across without using violence?
How can countries settle their problems without using violence?
Research - Investigate and research the lives of famous individuals that have promoted non-violence and peace throughout the ages.
Have An Assembly - sing songs about peace and friendship - compose new ones, create original plays
Letter Writing Campaign - Have children contact local, state and federal politicians. Write letters to the media stating children's' concerns and hopes for the future. Write to your local newspapers telling them about the positive articles you would like to see in their newspapers.
Have children create their own public broadcasting commercials promoting non-violence.
Conflict Resolution -- discuss the many ways to solve problems without fighting/using violence.
Have January 1, 2000 proclaimed a Holiday!
Create school wide book lists on friendship, positive relationships, etc.
Have speakers come down to the school.
