Hero-St. Mary of the Assumption School

St. Mary of the Assumption School

My hero is my dad. He is helpful and caring when I am in a jam. One time I was sick. I didn't have any medicine. M dad went to the store and brought home some medicine for me and after a few days I was fine.

Taylor Zsiros, grade 4

My hero is my sister. She is the best sister in my opinion. She might be a neat freak, "but" she is a smart, educated adult. She was concerned about 9/11. I'll hardly be able to see her anymore. I still love her very much. She'll be busy all the time.

My hero is my mom. Whenever I'm hurt, like if I get a paper cut, she puts a band-aid on me. I have allergies and eczema on my arm. I don't care because mom tells me what to put on it. It is called Cort-aid.

My brave hero is Jesus. He suffered for us, died, and was buried. Jesus made miracles happen, helped the poor, prayed everyday, he met the needs of the poor, love everyone, and even more. I never will forget all the wonderful things he did. He gave me the key to heaven. I will never turn away from him when I heard the amazing stories in the Bible. I know when I go to heaven with Jesus, God and everyone else, I will just love it.

Megan Svabik, grade 5

My heroes are doctors. They had to leave their homes and families to help the victims of the 9-11 terrorist attack. They went to school for a very long time to learn to be doctors and take care of sick and injured people.
Many of the patients on the 9-11 attack were badly burned from the fires. Doctors have much courage and bravery. Doctors are very strong, kind and smart too. Doctors shine bright. Doctors are my heroes.

My heroes are the firemen everywhere. They risked their lives to save our country and us. They are brave, courageous, and valiant and I am very grateful.
Another time firemen saved lives are when the 9 coal miners were trapped in that coal mine. The firemen never gave up. They never quit. They never took the easy way out.
That's why the firemen are my heroes.

Madison Riethman, grade 5

My dad is my hero because when I hit a brick wall on my bike, my dad ran home and got the car to take me to the hospital to get my stitches. When I was getting stitches, my mom and dad was right at my side. My dad always takes care of me and I think the best hero would be my family and especially my dad.

Danile Kabanuk, grade 5

My heroes of 9/11 are the doctors and the Military. I honor the doctors because they saved people's lives with their talent in their line of work. If wasn't for them, more people would be dead. They saved so many lives; they deserve more respect than they receive from the public. Most people think the fire and police agencies saved the most lives, but they were wrong. The doctors actually saved them so I honor them.
I also honor the military for springing into action to clean the rubble. They protected us. They protected our way of life. Most people don't think they should be helping Afghanistan in their efforts to restore their country, but I think they should. It wasn't the Afghan's fault for what Osama Bin Laden did. The military helped a country that we were at war with. In my book, that makes them heroes, not only in our country, but others as well. Those are the reasons I chose the Military forces and doctors for my 9/11 heroes.

Shelby Koenig, grade 6

On September 11, 2001 something terrible happened to our country. The United States was under terrorist attacks causing many deaths and injuries. Two airplanes demolished the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers. This caused over one hundred stories to fall. Although there were many heroes, I believe the firefighters of New York were the greatest. They were so brave and unselfish because they spent so many days and nights looking for survivors. They were looking for thousands of missing people, trying their hardest to bring good news home to families. Even though the news was not always good, they were able to bring an end to the families' wondering if their family or friends were dead or alive.

Adam Custer, grade 6

Do you know who that man was who risked his life and helped the people that were trapped?
He went inside the Twin Towers to help the people inside escape.
Do you know that man who helped the injured?
He cleaned and wrapped their wounds and comforted them.
Do you know that man who helped them get to safety, who helped them find their loved ones?
Do you know that man who prayed for them because that's all he could do?
I don't know any of these people personally, but I know they were all heroes
Like the firefighters, policemen, doctors, and other people like you and me.

Lauren Scheidt, grade 6

My heroes of 9/11 are the New York medics, doctors, and ambulance drivers. The medics that rushed out and put injured people into the ambulances were great. The doctors who performed surgeries and ran tests on the injured people were unrelenting. They should be proud because they dealt with some gruesome stuff that I wouldn't be able to handle.
Other heroes are the firefighters that climbed through the rubble of the World Trade Center, searching for trapped people. They're heroes because they risked their lives to help others.
The NYPD also risked their lives searching for people and the brave people on Flight 93, who saved part of the Pentagon.

Noah Minick, grade 6

My life has changed since September 11 and I like to thank my heroes. I want to thank the doctors because they came to help all the people. They were doing all they could to help get them well again, to be their regular selves. They always help us when we need them.
I want to thank the firefighters because they helped to find and rescue people. They put out the fires and helped the people go to safety.

Hannah Yackey, grade 6

It was just another day for America, nothing out of the ordinary for anybody. But that morning changed America, yet nobody knew this that morning. Sometimes I think that if I could press a rewind button, life in America would be much different. My heroes are the passengers on Flight 93. Every one of them is a hero to me and I'm sure for many others too. They fought for American on 9-11. They had the lives of many more people in their hands. They put other people's lives in front of their own. I'm talking about how they struggled with the hijackers, which brought the plane down in Pennsylvania.
I think that the passengers on Flight 93 and all the hijacked aircraft passengers should have a memorial built for their heroic effort.

Craig Thomas, grade 6

Stephanie Pike, grade 6

I honor every police officer and their K-9 assistant who scurried around in the dust to help people that could be alive and maybe even saved some lives with their brave work. When looking around, they could have been trapped by a piece of debris. The K-9 assistant, large or small, have to go into large collapsible buildings just for someone's life or lives. The police officers helped train the dogs and some didn't. Some dogs may have even lost their lives to save others people's lives. The dogs have an excellent sense of smell so you have a chance that the K-9s will most likely find them. On 9-11, many K-9 assistants helped find people who survived but mostly the casualties (non-survivors). 9-11 was a bad day for America. Maybe the sight of the dogs might give people hope, comfort, and joy.
