I hope you're all enjoying everything that's up here so far. I thought for those who might want original copies
of anything, like playbills, etc., I'd make a list of tips on how you can request them to guarantee a response.
You'll also find a page of addresses to make it easier, should anyone care to write.
1. In your letter, write that you were assigned to write about someone you admire and respect.
(All letters should be typed if possible, to make your request appear more serious and
professional. I think these will also receive a quicker response.)
2. State you're an ardent fan of actor/musician Malcolm Gets and ask if it's possible they
can lend you any materials they may have on him that can enhance your paper.
3. Try to include the play(s) he performed in for the particular theater you're writing to
so it will help in their search. (You'll find the corresponding theaters next to the
play in my bio. page.)
4. Thank them for their time and cooperation and always send a thank you note after receiving
materials.
5. It helps to sometimes write a little note on the envelope, like "Urgent," "Personal," or
"Please Read" so it'll get read quicker.
6. Most of the theaters respond within a few weeks, but give it at least 1-2 months. If you
still hear nothing, you can write a follow up letter stating you've written once before
and have yet to hear a response. Then restate your request, following the same pattern and
it should get answered this time.
*Many of the theaters were very helpful and sweet in sending information and materials. So, nobody should
have any difficulties. Good luck to you all:o)
