VTWIN ALLIANCE Video/DVD picks

for those rainy non-motorcycling days

  • "28 Days", Environmentalists raid an animal research lab to release the animals and unintentionaly unleash a plague on humanity. Set in London, the movie doesn't take sides, it's just a real good scare. A little fatalistic and depressing, but a really good rent.
  • "Whale Rider", An aging tribal leader anxious to pass New Zealand's traditions on to his disinterested sons tries to teach every male teen in the community, but overlooks the one person most deserving of it, his grand-daughter. Worth it just for the beautiful scenery.
  • "Nowhere in Africa", A jewish couple and their daughter leave Nazi Germany in 1938 to Africa. The husband becomes distant while the mother and daughter grow to love it there. Won 5 Golden Lolas, the German equivalent to our Oscar. Sorry subtitles, but ya gotta see it. The Post called it a bit soap opera-ish, what do they know?
  • "Count of Monte Cristo", A classic. Like Robinson Crusoe only a hundred times better. And very romantic too.
  • "Dark Blue World", About 2 Czech pilots not being allowed to fly against the enemy until they learn English and the woman both of them fall in love with.
  • "Here on Earth", Sizzling and Sweet. Arrogant Ivy league Valedictorian falls for homeboy's girlfriend.
  • "A Glimpse of Hell", Re: USS Iowa.
  • "Behind Enemy Lines", About American pilot, Scott Burnett, in Bosnia. A must see.
  • "The Butterfly", Very very good. Go to the trouble of finding it in nearby artsy fartsy towns. About a boy who starts school for the first time in the months before Spanish revolution. 1999 Not to be confused with the awful "Butterfly" movie Pia Zadora made in the 80s.
