The NGB was created for the enjoyment of all the people who participate. All I ask is that the GMs of the teams, follow the rules and just have fun.
League Overview
The NGB is simmed by using a program called OOTP4 (Out Of The Park 4), this is a sim game that was created to be as real as possible. The player's perfomances in the game are based on their MLB statistics for the 2003 season, but after the 1st season, the NGB will take on a life of its own. At the end of each season, players are subject to the effects of aging, with some players electing retirement.
As players age, the younger ones see improvements in their skills while the skills of older players decline.
As a NGB General Manager you are expected to maintain your team and make them the best of your ability. There are many ways to build your team. One way is to build towards the future by getting the best rookies you can. Another way is to assemble a team of crafty veterans. Both ways have their good and bad points.
Players Aging
The birth date for each player in the NGB has been entered so that the player's age is increased on their actual birthday. Between seasons, each player will experience the effects of aging according to is age. Younger players will generally see an increase in their actual ratings while older players will see a decrease.
All-Star Game
At about mid-season, all teams have three days off so that the All-Star game can be played on the 2nd day. The All-Star teams are divided into two teams, American and National League. The computer picks the best players and assembles two teams to face of for one epic night, seeing who is truly the MVP.
NGB All-Star Game will be Simmed Live in a private chat on AIM.
Home Run Derby
We will not just have a All-Star Game, we will also have a Home Run Derby. We will get the top 6 homerun leaders in each league that go to the All-Star Game, to face each other and find out who the homerun king is.
Playoff Schedules
After the regular season has been played, the best team from each division and one wildcard team from each league will advance to the postseason. The following table lists the lengths of each round of the playoffs:
| Round | Number of games | Schedule |
| League Division series | 5 | H-H-A-A-H |
| League Championship series | 7 | H-H-A-A-H-A-H |
| World Series Championship | 7 | H-H-A-A-H-A-H |
The World Series will be simmed live in a private chat on AIM.
Hall of Fame
Players who have shown outstanding performance over the course of their career may be nominated for election into the NGB Hall of Fame. To be eligible for nomination, a player must at least 10 years experience and must have made a certain impact during his years in the NGB. Nominated players are eligible for election one year after retirement and remain eligible for 15 years.
Each year, the most qualified retirees are elected for enshrinement in the Hall of Fame, but only a limited number are selected each year. Marginally qualified players may find themselves at the bottom of each year's eligibility list and may never get elected into the Hall before becoming ineligible, but given a period of time when the relative level of player accomplishment is low, the marginally qualified player may get enshrined.
Player accomplishments are measured statistically for each season and for the player's career as a whole. Players are given credit for each statistical accomplishment as well as reaching certain "magic" milestones, such as 3000 hits or 300 wins and a host of others. If a player wins any seasonal award or is an important member of winning teams, particularly if he plays an important defensive position such as catcher or shortstop, he will have a greater chance of becoming nominated and elected.
Awards
Following the World Series, a number of awards are given out to various players for their accomplishments during the season. The awards are given out by the computer:
Most Valuable Player (MVP): Awarded to the most valuable player in each league. Individual statistical accomplishments and milestones (such as hitting 30 HRs with 30 SBs), relative team strength and defensive importance all contribute to the selection.
Cy Young Award: Awarded to the top pitcher in each league and awarded to pitcher's based on their statistical accomplishments and milestones (such as winning 20 games or having a era of 2.50).
Rookie of the Year:Awarded to the top rookie in each league. The award can be given to either a hitter or pitcher and is based on the same criteria used to select the MVP and Cy Young. Players who appear on the active roster will lose their rookie status whether they play or not. To maintain a player's rookie eligibility he cannot appear on the active (25-man) roster.
Save Title: Awarded to the top save leader in each league. The award will be giving out to the each guy in each league that has the most saves.
Batting Title:This award is giving out to each league. It's for the highest batting AVG in each league.
