Growing GreensIf you have a sunny location or a grow light and a long, well draining planter box, you can grow fresh lettuce greens. Those of us that love those mixed green salads and pay dearly for the greens at the market, can try you hand at growing greens. They grow from seed really easy and as long as your soil is enriched, all you need is water and light. You can use a potting mix with some compost and then sprinkle your lettuce seeds. Sprinkle a thin layer of your soil mix over the top of the seeds and tamp down lightly. Then water.
Seeds should sprout in 7 to 10 days. Once the seedlings reach about four inches tall, snip them leaving about an inch still in the ground. They will continue to grow back until they hit a cold spell. There are many different kinds of seed varieties choose the ones your family likes. You can also order mixed seeds from some seed companies.
