New Leadership for the Blue Stars
In a surprise announcement by the Blue Stars Board of Directors, Brad Furlano was named the interim director of the Blue Stars. Furlano has held numerous positions within the organization for over 20 years -- most recently as drill designer and staff & program coordinator.
Division II/III 2002 CD
In a surprising move, Drum Corps International issued its first Summer Music Games CD of the 2002 Division II/III Finals. Recorded by Ken Mason at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, WI, this is the first time DCI has released a CD dedicated to the Division II/III corps. They do, however, issue a VHS recording of Division II/III Finals annually.
New Finals Week Format
Looks like DCI is making dramatic changes to the Division II/III format for Finals Week. In previous years the II/III corps Finals Week schedule ran Monday through Wednesday, with Finals held Wednesday night. The 2003 Finals will kick off with another single day marathon Prelims, which will occur all day Tuesday (5 August 2003). Semi-Finals will then take place on Thursday (7 August 2003) and Division II/III Finals will be held on Saturday morning (9 August 2003). Both Prelims and Semi-Finals will be conducted at Governor Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida. And finals will be at the Citrus Bowl.

From the "It's about Time" category: Esperanza de Luz announced their championship caliber Open Class color guard will compete in the WGI World Class this winter. This is the same group, as part of the Esperanza Drum & Bugle Corps, that helped to upset the balance of power in Division II this past summer. The very best to this class act from San Diego.
East Coast Jazz will be sounding off with a new set of B-Flat horns this summer.
This past summer Drum Corps World released its massive volume of "A History of Drum & Bugle Corps." The book was so popular with fans that they are planning to publish Volume II for this coming summer. Included in the new edition will be three to four pages of approximately 90 corps, which will include a handful of Division II/III Corps.
The Blue Saints Drum & Bugle Corps celebrates its 50th year of continuous operation in 2003. They returned to Division III this past summer with an audience-pleasing production of "Pearl Harbor." As one of the few remaining competitive corps in Ontario, and the oldest still active since 1952, the members look forward to improving on last year's success. Look for the Blue Saints from Sudbury Ontario to be hitting the field in 2003 for your musical enjoyment.
