1. Some mischievous (and very cold!) imp drags the rock with a long cable when the lake bed gets wet during/after a storm.
2. The wind blows the heavy rocks about during rain or snow storms when the lake bed gets slick.
3. Water accumulates after rain and freezes at night, completely surrounding the rocks. The winds blow and "catch" the sheets of ice as they would a piece of cardboard, except that the surface tension of a layer of liquid keeps the ice sheet on the lake bed. The sheets of ice move on that layer of liquid dragging the rocks along the lake bed.
