Dusty boats hanging in garages.
If you have one of these, we want you to get out on the water with your canoes and kayaks and start having fun again! Paddling is a great way to gain or maintain fitness, meet other people, view wildlife and avoid the risks faced by cyclists and runners on public roads. Paddling is also great cross training for those whose main sport is something else.
Maybe people don't get out much because they don't feel safe going out alone--going out in groups I hope will change that. Some have boats that weigh too much to transport--we can't do much about that, except to mention that a few members who own double canoes often will bring them for excursions so you can often leave your boat at home. Our excursions usually run for an hour or more--you (and boatmates, if any) may turn back earlier, at your pleasure.
A six seat outrigger canoe launches out of Westport, Washington as well and is a great way for beginning paddlers to enjoy the sport. This would be the craft of choice for outings of five or six people. We can accommodate more or fewer people with single and tandem craft.
Even though the focus of this group's founding members is paddling boats at fast speeds (and racing), all paddlers are encouraged to join. You should join this group if you would like to learn to paddle faster, even if you rate that low among the reasons you like to paddle. Often being able to move the boat a bit faster can enhance one's enjoyment of paddling, even if only for viewing wildlife. We also encourage safer paddling and will do what we can to keep all participants safe, including cancelling an outing.
