 FROM WALMART BOAT RAMP

Surfing the Chehalis River   At Walmart boat ramp WM.  Check tide tables for an outgoing tide.  On a day when the prevailing westerly winds blow, usually in the afternoon, you paddle about 1.5-2 miles from WM downstream through the chop until you get past the port of Grays Harbor.  Turn around and ride the bumps.  If you can arrange a shuttle, you start at the 28th street boat ramp in Hoquiam & go upstream until a bit past the port of Grays Harbor, where the waves start--ride the waves and finish at WM or just let the ebb tide carry you back to the Hoquiam ramp.

Elliot Slough.  Launch at the Walmart boat ramp WM.  paddle upriver (East) along the backside of Walmart.  You'll see the slough to the left where the river takes a turn south.  Go as far as you like.

Wishkah River.  When the wind and the tide clash on the Chehalis River, paddle the quiet Wishkah.  Launch at the Walmart boat ramp.  The Wishkah runs to the right under the railroad bridge, past a fish/chips joint, the Guesthouse Hotel and Burger King.  Ducks, Beaver, fish breaching the surface, Kingfishers & Great blue herons be here.

Chehalis River upstream to the Cosmopolis and back

Chehalis River downstream to the 28th St Ramp in Hoquiam and back.

FROM THE WISHKAH ROAD LONG SWAMP BOAT LAUNCH

Paddle the Wishkah River upstream and back to the launch.  You'll encounter people's garbage at the launch, but the float is worth small aggravations.  Paddle downstream and back up or,  keep going if you can arrange for a shuttle after you take out at the Walmart ramp, a fast ride if you start during an ebb tide.
