Disclaimer:
Conditions encountered while paddling a boat, like many sports, can endanger life and limb, despite all care taken to prevent mishaps. An extreme number of variables can come into play in any physical activity, of which paddling is no exception. Participants assume responsibility for their own welfare when engaging in paddling with this group.
Safety training is the responsibility of the paddler and not assumed by any of the members of this group. We can provide limited teaching and practical assistance, but as a rule most of us are not certified instructors. If you have any doubts about your abilities to self assist or assist others in a capsize or other event, you should seek information and training.
The most important aspect of safety is knowing your limits. Have a good grasp of the weather forecast. Know when to stay off the water.
