Summerlin National Junior Basketball League
National Junior Basketball, a nationwide group of youth basketball leagues, was established in 1984 as a non-profit organization for children to learn the fundamentals and sportsmanship associated with basketball.
The Summerlin Chapter services the Summerlin area (a master planned community in the northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada), and consists of players from 3rd grade to 12th grade. For 1999-2000 season, we have four divisions for boys, High School (9th to 12th Grades), Seniors (7th and 8th Grades), Juniors (5th and 6th Grades), and Minors (3rd and 4th Grades). In addition we have two All Net competitive teams of 5th and 6th grade only. All girls from the Summerlin area play in the northwest Chapter of the NJB so as to allow for more balanced teams and a more enjoyable experience for all. All High School boys in the Summerlin and Northwest areas play in the Summerlin High School Division.
Our goal is to create an environment in which every player can develop their full potential as an athlete and an individual. Through NJB, special rules for each age division have been established to help achieve a balance of individual accomplishment and team competition on the court. The following is a brief outline of the game rules established towards this end.

EVALUATIONS
EVALUATIONS OF ALL PLAYERS IS MANDATORY TO PLAY IN SUMMERLIN NJB. Evaluations take place on a Saturday Morning early in October. Times are assigned during registration. A limited number of makeups may be scheduled for an early evening later that week under special circumstances (such as illness). The evaluation process consists of the assignment of a rating by the coaches of the players
The operations of an organization like this takes a phenomenal amount of people, time, money, and commitment. We would like all players and their families to respect those administrators, coaches, and committee members who have given so much of themselves to make this league a success. Their contribution is all volunteered – no one gets paid for any of these positions, and without them Summerlin would not have a basketball league. We are so fortunate to have people like this and many more are needed. Please be a part of our success and volunteer. The only amount of time that is insignificant is that which is not offered.
In addition to the team coach, some teams are able to recruit an assistant coach from the parents of the children on a drafted team. All teams provide parent volunteers to coordinate each parents league responsibility. This may vary from scorekeeping, running the time clock, policing the facilities, assisting in special events (photo days, etc.), or whatever may be required to help organize the 240 players (and their families) involved during game days. Your help is both necessary and greatly appreciated.

Like many non-profit organizations, the registration fees collected by SNJB do not cover all costs of the many programs and incentives offered by our league. Monetary support from our community by way of sponsorship helps fund professional referees at each game and provides for table score boards. It also funds a limited SNJB scholarship program, which ensures that children are given the opportunity to play basketball. Sponsorship donations also allow our children to be involved in tournaments that require travel and lodging. It is our philosophy that all children should have the opportunity to experience the pride of being a part of a team and that they are an important element of that team.
We want express our sincere gratitude to the many individuals and businesses who have already contributed to our sponsorship fund. It is through your gracious support that our players will develop leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives. We look forward to the continued support of our sponsors and hope that others will follow their example.
