I wish I was a star,
Shining bright in its brazen glory,
I wish I was a writer,
Writing the most touching story.
I wish I was a rose,
Beautiful but protected with thorn,
I wish I was a child
That no one wished to scorn.
I wish I was a dove,
Flying away, pure and free,
I wish I was a rainbow
So all the world would smile at me.
I wish I was the thunder,
Making Earth tremble beneath me every hour,
I wish I was the lightning
Scorching all I wanted to devour.
I wish I was the girl
That you cherished so deeply
I wish I was a shadow
That could travel so discreetly,
I wish I was an angel
That is forever called divine,
I wish I was your mother
Then at least I could call you mine.
I wish I had no wishes
For wishes lead to longing
And longing leads to coveting
And coveting is a root of sin.
So I'll be content with myself
And seek the happiness within.
