The Space Race was a lie. In the late 1950's, a meteor shower pummeled the Bering Straits. In the debris, American and Soviet scientists simultaneously discovered an off-world bio-metal that they could fabricate into amazing vehicles and weapons. They quickly gathered up and depleted all of the material that had fallen to Earth, and both sides were left wanting more.....

Then began the REAL Space Race... The one too brutal to show the public. They each launched their space programs in efforts to find additional bio-metal deposits, and it was the military imperative that made the space race so intense, not Kennedy's "for the greater good of man." Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon was actually the biggest cover-up in American history. Nobody knew that we'd built a full moon base just a few feet away. In fact, it was General Collins, commander of the American moon base at Eagle's Nest One, who took the original picture of Neil stepping onto the moon. It's amazing that nobody ever asked who took that picture. The NSA thought they'd made a real mistake when they released it.

This game is great because it is challenging and extremely fun. It is a stategy game yet you are thrown into the action because you are on the planet with your units. You have to fight, and usually die fighting, as either a Russian or an American. Your campaigns are waged on a series of planets across our solar system. As an American, BattleZone starts out on Luna(the moon) and then head to Mars after fighting there a while buzz on over to Venus and eventully to Europa and Io, all the while continuously fighting the Russians. Then comes the "fun" part. On Titan and Achilles you meet a new enemy that brings the Russians to your side, and quickly. The Furies are here. These things are bad and there's a lot of them. They are made from biometal and they are able to think for themselves. Need I say more. If you think BattleZone is great be sure to check the expansion pack Red Odyssey which is just as fun. There is now a sequel to BZ. BZII is fun, but not as good as the original BZ in my opinion. Regardless both games are great to play the first time and just as good the second and third.
