There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had
worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing
the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically.
"May be," the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing
with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed.
"May be," replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride
one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors
again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "May be," answered
the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft
young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed
him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned
out. " May be," said the farmer.

If we could shrink the Earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people ...... with all existing human ratios, it would look like this:
There would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere (North and South) and 8 Africans.
51 would be female; 49 would be male.
70 would be nonwhite; 30 white.
70 would be non-christian; 30 Christian.
50% of the entire world's wealth would be in the hands of only 6 people and all 6 would be citizens of the United States.
80 would live in substandard housing.
70 would be unable to read.
50 would suffer from malnutrition.
1 would be near death, 1 would be near birth.
Only 1 would have a college education.
No one would own a computer.

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three R's:
Respect for self
Respect for others and
Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
