I can recall 1997, prior to August 10, which was the day that I was "born again". Prior to that date, I was as guilty as the next person when it came to referring to people that looked "unkempt" or "dirty", simply as bums or degenorates.
Prior to that very special day in my life, I had lived a life of total worldliness, in fact, I was a four-star sinner. You see, I know we all sin, but I took it to the extreme. What did I do, why was I so bad?
From 1995 to 1997, I had taken a god given skill of photography and turned from capturing images of babies and families, to becoming a smut king. I was a professional pornographic photographer. I used women, not that I saw it that way, but that was what I was doing. My website at that time was one filled with smut, and I was making money at it. I was also heavily into gambling, alcohol and drug use- I was a drug dealer as well...I had so much talent, and yet, I was destroying myself and the life that the Lord had intended for me.
Anyway, it's a long story, but basically, I came through, and ended up staying in, Reno, Nevada. The Lord knew that the only way for me to truly open my eyes to his love, was to take me to the bottom, and I wound up on the streets with no money, no family, and nowhere to go on August 8th... After wandering around for two days, suicidal and confused, I wound up in the front row of a church service at the Reno Sparks Gospel Mission, and during that service, I broke down into tears, and asked the Lord Jesus Christ into my life.
Two and a half years after that experience, I continue to do what I have done since my first day as a new born Christian- speak out for those less fortunate and in need of healing...I was there, a bum, with no one that cared, or so I thought. Jesus cared, and always had...I just had to open my eyes and realize that the Lord had a much bigger plan for me. And I try each and every day to grow towards that plan.
So- Don't look down on people that look like "bums", LOVE on them- you'll be surprised the miracles that are in store for you if you do!
