Bills score only 3 against 49ers
Playoff hopes down the drain again
After scoring 54 points against the Chiefs, the Bills could only muster 3
against the lowly San Francisco 49ers in a 10-3 loss. This loss virtually
guarantees that the Bills will reach the decade mark for not being in the
playoffs. The last time the Bills made the playoffs was in 1999, the year they
lost to the Titans in that wildcard game that was later named the Music City
Miracle.
Rian Lindell missed two crucial field goals, one which was shorter than a PAT,
from 20 yards out. The other was from 40 yards out. Both clanked off the upright
and now it may be time for the Bills to change kickers. Even if he had made
those two field goals, the Bills would have been short a point.
Trent Edwards didn't play in the second half because of a groin pull. JP Losman
came in and completed 11 of 17 for 93 yards. Edwards had completed 10 of 21 for
112 yards. Meanwhile, Marshawn Lynch had his second straight 100+ yard game, 16
carries for 134 yards, an 8.4 yards per carry average. Maybe the Bills should
have run him a bit more with that average.
The 49ers and the Kent State Golden Flashes have something in common this
weekend. Both came into Buffalo with 3-8 records and both left improving to 4-8
after upsetting their hosts. While the UB Bulls at least scored touchdowns (3 of
them) in a losing effort, their professional counterparts, the Bills, couldn't
find the endzone, even though they made 4 trips to the red zone.
The Bills 3 times came away from being down deep without any points. Twice, Rian
Lindell missed a field goal, one time JP Losman's 4th down pass came up short.
The Bulls have one more win than the Bills, being 7-5. The Bills, meanwhile, are
now 6-6 after winning their first 4 games.
Toronto Bound
At this point in the Buffalo Bills history, it is not worth the effort even
talking about them, let alone writing 4 hour articles about the miseries that
the team and the fans are suffering through.
It probably is appropriate that the Bills are heading to Toronto for next week's
"home" game. That's most likely their destination in the not too far
distant future anyway. Let the Toronto fans deal with these issues: A 90-year
old owner who is more interested in the bottom line than producing a winner. A
head coach who is so timid in making decisions that he'd make Niles Crane look
aggressive. The two quarterbacks on this team just don't know how to get the job
done. And finally, the Bills lost their last two home games to teams that they
should blown out (Cleveland & San Francisco). Had the Bills won those two
easy home games, we'd be talking about how the Bills are 8-4 and in the thick of
the wild card race. Instead, the Bills are now 6-6 after a 4-0 start and are
near the bitter end....again.
