Samuel Lambeth
Samuel Lambeth's name
first shows up in the record of Craven County on the Militia list thought
to have been a list of Johnson County Militia of about 1754 (Military
Troop Returns, 1747-1859, collation of Militia returns, 1757-1769,
North Carolina Archives.)
The area which
the Militia group that Samuel Lambeth was a member of seems
to have been made up of men from the area that is now , the northern
part of Lenoir County and extending north from Kinston to today boundary
between Lenoir and Greene Counties. This is important information
because John Lambeth held land grants ten to fifteen miles
south of Johnston county . (Johnston County, was part of
Craven County in 1746 when it was divided up. )
It has not been proven or
disproven , but family tradition say that John Lambert was
either the father or brother to Samuel, no one knows where or when
either of these men were born. These records become important
, placing Samuel Lambeth Sr. living in North Carolina.
If
the estimated date of 1754 on the Militia list is approximately correct,
Samuel Lambeth had probably been married ( to Alice Jane , her last
name is unknown ) for several years at this time and had three
or more children. His sons Benjamin, Moses and John are all thought
to have been born before 1755.
Samuel and
Alice Jane also had five other children Aaron , Josiah, Samuel Jr,
and Sarah, there is an unknown daughter.
of these eight
children Aaron is thought to have been the oldest then Benjamin, John,
Moses, the unknown daughter, Joshiah, Samuel , Sarah was the youngest.
