The Abbott's

You may ask, "Why did you get into genealogy?" Good question after all the years that I said I don’t really care about all the dead ancestors; they mean nothing to me. My sister, Linda Ann and brother, David have been doing genealogy for the past 24 years or so. So why should I get into genealogy too?

Last year, while waiting in line at the DMV to renew my car registration, I was talking to my friend Becky about what we had both been doing. Becky told me she was doing her genealogy on-line. She said there was so much information on the net, as well as good programs to help organize the data.

After talking with Becky, I kept thinking about what she said. I became very curious as to what I could find and learn. Later that day, when I got home, I ran a search on genealogy to see what I could find. I found lots of sites to look and go through. The next thing I knew I was engrossed and lost in what I was doing. I was hooked for sure!

When I first started searching I did not find much. I did not know much about my mother’s family. All I knew for sure was that the Abbotts were from Connecticut and the Lambeths were from North Carolina.

After I purchased the program, Family Tree Maker, my searching really took off. My little three-ring binder has been replaced with a large file cabinet just to keep my Abbott and Lambeth surnames in.

Over the past year I have learned that both the Abbott and Lambeth families have been here in America since about 1700.

I did not know what part the Abbott family played in the American Revolutionary war.

I did know that the Lambeth family fought in the American Revolutionary War.

In this past year I have learned so much! Not only about my long dead and forgotten ancestors. I have also learned the part that my ancestors played in the American Revolutionary War, and the Civil War as well, making our history come alive for me.
