Turbo Grafx 16

Welcome to my new Turbo Grafx 16 page! Here you might find some reviews, pics, emulator links or anything else I can dig up for you! so keep checking back here for updates!

Introduction

The Turbo Grafx 16 was relesed in 1989 and was known as the PC Engine in Japan. It is the second 16 bit system (Intelivision I belive was the first) but some may disagree becuase it only has a 8-bit CPU but a 16-bit graphics chip. Similar to the lynx. It is also the first system to have a CD-add on. It has a very unique cartridge which is about the size of a Credit card!. Also has a great controller with two speeds of turbo built right in!. On the down side there is only one controller port so that means you have to buy an adapter to play 2 or 4 players. Some of the Classic games for the Turbo are of course the Bonk series (Bonk, Bonks Revenge, and Bonk 3) Bomberman, SplatterHouse, Street Figher II, and so many more. The regular games are called Turbo Chips, or HU Cards. But the best games are on the Turbo Grafx CD known as Super CDs. With this you can play some of the best games ever made such as Dracua X, Ys series, Macross 2036, Cosmic Fantasy series, etc. If you are lucky to find Dracula X you are going to end up paying at least $200! but ive seen them go as high as $400! This is becuase it is out of print and really rare.

Another great thing about the Turbo Grafx 16 is that it is that there is a portable version of this great system! Its called the Turbo Express. And you can play all your favorite HU Cards on this baby. It has a great screen and is shaped similar to the GameBoy. Game Dude has them for $80! its a great deal. If you are into the Emulator scene there is a really great Turbo Grafx emulator called Magic Engine. Go HERE for the Magic Engine Homepage. The only problem with this emulator is that it is not free :( Registration is $35 I think. But belive me its well worth it. It runs games perfectly and you can get all the games you want for free! and it can also be a Turbo Grafx CD as well!...you have to have the CD though. But again it saves you from buying a $200+ Turbo Duo or TG16CD. If you want to know some good ROM sites here is a few:

The Dump Has tons of games but good luck getting in to download any since its on a FTP site!

Dave's Classics Has a lot of ROMs.

I knew a lot more but since my Hard drive cashed I lost them all so I will have to find them all over again, but as soon as I do I will put up a link here.

If you are wondering where you can still buy Turbo Grafx games and accesories there are a few great places. One is GameDude, (link above). Other Places are Turbo Zone Direct
Retro Games Go here if you are looking for a cheap systems!

Another great Turbo Page is Un-Official Turbo Pages!
