This is a picture of a victoria style
house in Gold Hill. Gold hill, is a gold
mining community just down the canyon
from Virginia City. It is located in a
caynon called Gold Canyon, which is the
canyon where a stream ran down from the
top of the Virginia Mountain range. It
is this stream where Gold was first
found in Nevada. The miners that first
found Gold here, were not impressed with
the amount of Gold that they found in
the streams here, and struck out for the
Gold fields of California. The reason
for this foolish decision was because
they had been told that large nuggets
could be pick up out of the streams in
California with no effort at all. A few
of these first miners returned to Nevada
and Gold Canyon when they became
disillusioned with the Gold fields of
California.
