One In Four - 19/04/2001
The children took it well all things considered
but cremation is a veritable sequoia
for seven year old comprehension to scale.

Through the smoke of incomprehension
all he could see was his daddy burning,
amid the flames and heat of his own grief.

His younger sister said her dad would return
once the ceremony was done and dusted,
I'd like to think that she was right in a way.

A death sentence passed for a thirty-something,
a decent man who committed no obvious crime.
Yet he was judged, condemned and executed
by the cancerous malice of a malignant mole.
