I've only heard WYWH a few times and am currently awaiting a copy of it I've ordered. But from what I recall, I think Straight Up is going to be pretty tough to beat. Maybe that's just because the hits on Straight Up do actually get some radio airplay, but it's a strong album, recorded before the internal problems of the group dominated their daily lives. Tracks like Take It All and the hits are dynamite. The Evans 'It's Over' is also decent. The Molland tracks are probably the weakest, with Suitcase seeming a bit out of place. They should've kept 'I'll Be the One' on here - it's a decent track.

Aside from the music, what I really enjoy is the intoxicated look on Mike's face on the front cover! What a fun photo shoot that must have been for the boys!

Wish You Were Here...a great record, no doubt about it...but does it stand up to "Straight Up" standards?....I don't think it does...I don't think there is one weak song on Straight Up but Wish You Were Here is kind of a hit and miss...Just A Chance,You're So Fine,Got to Get Out of Here, and Meanwhile Back at the Ranch/Should I Smoke are classic potential hits...but King of the Load, Dennis and Love Time are rather disappointing and Mike and Joey's In the Meantime/Some Other Time gets tiresome and tends to drone after a while....but the most important thing to mention about the album is how Badfinger had moved from the power pop sound of Straight Up to an almost country flavor on Wish You Were Here.

This album has always been a favorite of mine.Very electric! All the songs are good, even Joey's. My favorites are:Know One Knows, Dennis,Meanwhile/Should I,Just A Chance and King Of The Load. This album could have made it for Badfinger, a shame it was pulled.

"Wish You Were Here" is quite simply one of my all time favorite albums. Twenty-five years later this record still gives me goose pimples in parts (especially "Some Other Time" and Pete's guitar solo at the very end of "Should I Smoke") My favorites are the two medleys, "Love Time", and "Dennis". "Straight Up" is a collection of great pop and rock songs but "Wish You Were Here" flows like an album. Producer Chris Thomas deserves alot of the credit for the excellant sound on this album. This is Badfinger's equivalent to The Beatles' "Abbey Road".

I think Wish you were here is my favorite album. I had "Best of, vol 2", which includes 6 tracks from WYWH. and when I bought WYWH I wondered why were the remaining 3 tracks left out of the compilation. I think the band sounds mature and not so Beatle-dependent. My favorite songs are "Dennis", "Know one knows", "Meanwhile back.../ Should I smoke", "In the meantime/ Some other time", "Love time", "King of the load (T)" and "You're so fine" Well, if my favorite songs are 7 and the album has 9, I think it explains why I love more this album than "Straight up"
