Comments:

Alanis Morissette's follow-up to her great success "Jagged Little Pill" can be an exhausting exercise to get through. With an unusually long playing time of more than 71 minutes, some may feel a bit like a marathon to get through all seventeen tracks. But first and foremost it is the limited number of really strong songs that pulls down a bit on the overall impression.

Big ambitions with the album are obviously there and there is experimenting with both odd beats, quirky harmonies and unusual instrumentation. Fortunately there is indeed a handful of really good songs; especially "Thank U" with its haunting keyboard theme and catchy chorus stand out as one of Morissettes very best songs.

Other favorites include "UR", "Unsent" and "That I Would Be Good", which help to lift up the album. The quiet and waltzing "Heart of the House" certainly also isn't without charm.

An interesting but somewhat longwinded album by Morissette from a time when she was still unpredictable and really interesting.
