Comments:

This album includes eight songs from the original British release of ”A Hard Day's Night”, as well as the tracks "Slow Down" and "Matchbox" from the ”Long Tall Sally” EP and the German-language version of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" .

For the American audience, five of the songs from "Something New" were already released on the soundtrack of "A Hard Day's Night", meaning that only six songs were "new" album-tracks. Three of these originated from side two of the European album "A Hard Days Night "-" Anytime at All "," Things We Said Today "and" When I Get Home ". Two cover versions, ”Slow Down” and ”Matchbox”, come from the EP "Long Tall Sally", while the last is the German-language version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".

Contentably disappointing for a little wallet that might have already invested in the soundtrack for "A Hard Day's Night"; but nevertheless a nice little collection of strong recordings.

Lennon's vocals were incredibly strong at this time, and this is strongly demonstrated by tracks such as "Anytime to All", "Slow Down", "Tell Me Why" and "When I Get Home".

Both Lennon and McCartney contribute a fine melodic ballad in "If I Fell" or "And I Love Her" respectively. Moreover McCartney’s fine "Things We Said Today" is found in the softer end

Ringo gives a solid, but not pranked version of "Matchbox", while Harrsion has been given the lead vocals on "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You". The "German" version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" is fun, but the original is clearly preferable. Even though you may have liked a little more value for your money, it is a very solid 1964 album - both the mono and the stereo versions.
