Comments:

Arcade Fire's first album is an exciting, but also a bit dark, concept album about loss and growing up. Musically it is based in many genres, with clear roots in both classical music and rock music as it was played by bands like the Velvet Underground and Talking Heads.

Although the songs are thematically tied together, most of the mare so strong that they can easily stand alone. It is not an album that necessarily graps you at first listen, but you won’t be in doubt that you are dealing with something special. It is an album that can withstand repeated listening, and personal favorites may easily change over time.

I am very excited for the subdued and melodic "Une Anee sans lumiere" and "7 Kettles". Among the more upbeat tracks, I believe "Tunnels" and "Rebellion" stand out.

The instrumentation is very varied and exciting with various strings and wind instruments all on a solid base of rock. On the vocal side, the group is perhaps a little limited; especially the female vocals may seem a little thin.
