Jon Tiven ( who has worked with Big Star ) and Peter Lubin Interview Tom Evans some time 1971

Jon:
How long has the group been together?

Tom:
About two or three years with me as the bass player. The other three have been together for
four years, but the old bass player left.

Jon:
How did your contract with Apple come about?

Tom:
We were just writing songs, and they were looking for people who wrote songs. There were a
lot of people trying to get in, but we were, like the first.

Jon:
How long was it until you started recording for them?

Tom:
We did it from the beginning; but they werenīt very good. You get better at it. We had a lot of
experience with Paul. Itīs easier as you go along, so we just got into it more.

Peter:
How were you chosen to do the music for The Magic Christian?

Tom:
Paul was supposed to do it first. He wrote the title song, but he decided he didnīt want to do
it; so he told us we could. He gave us our first real break. We never look back - no time.

Jon:
Have you recorded since the second LP?

Tom:
Yeah, weīve got a record out in about a week. Itīs called Name of The Game. Itīs a little more
of an advancement. Itīs a good song.

Jon:
How much did The Beatles have to do with the second album?

Tom:
Nothing at all.

Jon:
The influence is really noticeable, even more than on the first LP.

Tom:
We were working on Georgeīs album during that time as well.

Peter:
Did you play a major part in the backup on Georgeīs album?

Tom:
We did the acoustic things. My Sweet Lord. We played on practically every track. Weīre on
Ringoīs new single.

Jon:
What was the story on that; you didnīt know about it or something . .

Tom:
We didnīt know he was going to release it. Ronnie Ronnettīs got a single on Apple, you know,
Phil Spectorīs wife; that we played on. Weīre like the Apple house band.
