The Art of

Nicholai's work reveals influences from the German Romantics of the late nineteenth century such as Caspar David Friedrich, as well as the Pre-Raphaelite school which includes Burne-Jones, Lord Leighton and Rossetti. Nicholai works mainly in oils. In his chosen medium he achieves a soft ethereal quality without resorting to such gimmicks as airbrushing. It is almost as if Nicholai was born 100 years too late. He seems uninfluenced by the Impressionists or the 'Modern' schools of the last century. Nevertheless, his often mystical themes and quasi-religious subject matter place him squarely in the vanguard of the Aquarian epoch. Some of his works exude an erotic quality yet they are tempered with a tranquility that is rare in today's art scene. Nicholai returned to Australia in June 2002 after living abroad. Don't hesitate to contact Nicholai for purchasing information or to commission work. We hope you enjoy the presentation.
