The "Island of Temples" will be a suitable name for Bali. On this island one can find lots of temples in which some looks really old and exotic. Not only this, Bali offered lots of sightseeing and activity as well. The beaches (some allows surfing), volcanic mountains, old town with lots of cultural events, and cheap souvenirs to bring home. 

Bali was the first country I have backpacked outside of Malaysia. I went there in 1997, after resigning from the airlines.  Right after my plain landed into Bali, I straight away took a taxi to Kuta (where most travelers stay) and booked into a hotel. Then I rented a motorbike and went around the island all by myself. It was great to roam around on a bike in a total foreign land. Freedom was the only thing I sorely upheld at that moment.
