FRIENDS OF THE MILLFIELD - NEWSLETTER 4th. MAY 2000 GOOD NEWS! On Thursday 13th. April 2000 the Milton Keynes Council's Local Plan Sub Committee unanimously voted to recommend that the Mill & the Willows site at Mill Lane be redesignated as open space in the new Milton Keynes Local Plan. This is a victory for all of us, who have consistently opposed development on this site. It demonstrates that our council is listening to local people and that action can bring positive results. BUT this does not affect... Taywood Homes' current applications, because the new Local Plan does not come into effect for some time. Meanwhile, Taywood Homes' applications must be considered under the current local plan. However, we hope this new recommendation will strengthen the resolve of the Development Control Committee to turn down the housing proposals, even though they are likely to face a public enquiry if they do! In order to give Milton Keynes Council maximum support, we are going to organise a new... PETITION against housing development at Mill Lane. Unfortunately, we are unable to use the old petition, which you may have signed last year, because it relates to past development applications. A petition adds great strength in the fight to defeat planning applications. If the current applications can be successfully overturned, then we, the local people, are a step nearer to having our park! We want EVERYONE to sign it and YOUR NAME will count! Collecting names involves calling at every home in Stony Stratford, so we would be very pleased to hear from anyone who could... HELP with this work. Could you help by collecting signatures from part or all of your own road, or another road? Could you and a friend or neighbour share the work? If so please call and tell us which road you could help with and leave your name and telephone number. Please phone 566898. THANK YOU for your continued support, it makes such a difference! Is there anybody out there, who remembers the serious floods of 1968 and 1982 in Stony Stratford? Who was affected - which houses - where - when - how deep was the water? If you have any information - please telephone and tell us on 564623, or put a note through the door at 185 High St. (the Old Barley Mow). Thank you.
