Telc and Olomouc

Renaissance houses on Telc's town square

Restaurant on Telc town square

Barouque fountain in Olomouc

Introduction
Telc and Olomouc are two towns seldom visited by tourists. They are both, however, worth a visit. Telc is small and relaxing, where as Olomouc is bigger and has more of a nightlife.

Things to See
  • Water Chateau (Telc)

Telc's mainly Renaissance castle, but full of different styles. The Armoury and African rooms are fascinating.

  • Telc Town Square

Bordered on three sides by 16th century Renaissance houses, Telc's town square is stunning.

  • St Moritz Chapel

Beautiful church, especially the stain glass windows.

  • St Wenceslas Cathedral & Premysl Palace (Olomouc)

The Gothic cathedral has an interesting exhibition in the crypt, whilst the palace (next door) features Romanesque walls and windows, and some beautiful frescoes.

  • Places to Stay
In Telc, I stayed in a private room, one of many available. £6 each a night got 3 of us a great room overlooking the beautiful town square, with breakfast included and a cheap mini-bar! The easiest way of finding a room is to go to the tourist info office (on the main square), where the staff are happy to ring round on your behalf.

In Olomouc, I stayed at the university, which becomes a hostel for the summer. The room was very basic, but a bargain at £3!

    Eating and Drinking
Two places on Telc's main square served good, cheap food. Restaurace U Zachariase and Cerny orel Hotel both serve meals for around £2-3.

The pizzeria next to Town Hall in Olomouc is a great setting for a pizza (or drink), but the service is lousy, so be prepared to wait.

The student's union (near the university hostel) is in another great setting, this time on the town walls. Unsurprisingly, the beer is very cheap!

The Depot is a cool little club which stays open till 5AM.
