The stunning Tatra Mountains straddle the border between
Poland and Slovakia. I stayed on the Slovakian side, in
a town called Stary Smokovec. This was near to lots of
great day walks in the mountains.
Things to See
Stary Smokovec has very little to see, but the
obvious attractions, the mountains, are very close.
There are many possible walks, but the most popular
and one that I did, involves walking (or taking the
funicular) up to Hrebienok, then across to Skalnate
Pleso, where there is a lake and three sets of cable
cars.
Place to Stay
I stayed at the Pension Spicka (in Stary
Smokovec), which is above a shop of the same name.
The tourist info office (Satur) was helpful in
finding this place. £6 got a great en-suite room,
with satellite TV and a shared kitchen.
