Introduction

The terrorist attacks of September eleven, have aggravated the world but especially the United States. It is not clear yet who was the master mind behind the attacks, but the effects are tangible in the economic, social and political fronts.

To internationalist like us, it is necessary for us to tell what happened and why it happened (perhaps the work of historians). It is also necessary that we make an analysis of the consequences and the effects that such events have in the international arena. We live in a period of time where these events cannot be taken lightly.

In this investigation we will try to make a balance of the effects that the September eleven attacks had. This analysis will exclusively cover the effects that the attacks had on the United States. We will cover the consequences in the domestic ground, the political arena, as well as in foreign relations and the social and economic aspects. Even though we will focus on the effects that these attacks had domestically, it is important to mention that the consequences can be seen all over the world.

The main objective will be to provide arguments in order to sustain that in the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks the terrorist issue became a top priority in US society and government. This can be shown by analyzing the different changes within American social and political structures, which have had consequences both within the United States and abroad.

In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives a thorough research process consisting in an analysis focused mainly in world wide respected newspaper sources, such as Le Monde, Wall Street Journal, Proceso and Reforma. Similarly, some American Media Corporations such as Fox News or CNN were employed in order to provide an understanding of the American point of view. Moreover, bibliographical sources were also used, relevant authors and topics were chosen, especially information dealing with the 9-11 effects in the aftermath of the attack. Some of the most important authors were Noam Chomsky or Milton Bearden, both US acute critics. Nevertheless, it was extremely difficult to find quality sources that present a thorough and objective analysis of the effects of the attack, given the proximity of these events.
