January - June 2001

Dear Pastor and praying friends,

Greetings from Nong Kai, Thailand, gateway to Laos.

Our team, Brothers Sombaht, Soontorn, myself and our families, want to thank all our supporters and prayer partners very, very much for your faithfulness.  You are an intricate part of this ministry to the lost of Esan (N.E. Thailand) and Laos.  It is partly because of you that we have seen 52 souls make professions of faith in the Lord Jesus during the first half of this year.  Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord in carrying out the Great Commission "unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8; cf. Matt 28:19-20).

Continue to prayer for our radio ministry into the closed field of Laos and this area of Esan.  Several have been saved after they came to church or requested that we visit as a direct result of this ministry.  We began to broadcast into the the Capitol of Laos and 4 Thai provincial capitols in October of 2000 and continued the 7 day a week program until the end of April 2001 (7 months).  We had to quit due the lack of funds.  Please be in much prayer that we get the needed support to resume this important ministry.  Brothers Sombaht and Soontorn continue to make tapes for Missionary Dennis Catlin's weekly radio program in the Provincial capitol of Chaiyaphum.

The average attendance for the first 6 months of 2001 for our 3 works was 41.  Here is the breakdown:
Dragon Town:    January:  8,  February:  9,  March: 12,  April: 10,  May: 11,  June: 19.
Nong Kai:       January:  9,  February: 15, March:  9,  April: 15,  May: 15,  June: 14.
Udon Thani:     January: 20, February: 23, March: 15,  April: 12,  May: 13,  June: 19.
Total for all 3:        January: 37, February: 47, March: 36,  April: 37,  May: 39,  June: 52.

Of the 52 professions of faith we had in the first half of this year 36 of them receive Christ in the services of these 3 works,  and we led 9 others to the Lord during visitations,  and 7 of them made their profession through our correspondence school.

During the first 6 months of 2001 we ministered to a total of 37 students through our correspondence courses (17 men, 8 Ladies, 12 Children).  We processed a total of 190 lesson for these students.

Your prayers are needed for persecuted Christians in Laos.  That wicked government is putting believers in prison who refuse to sign a document denying their faith.  Please pray earnestly for them!

Lord willing I will be returning to the States this October for 4 months to raise support for our radio ministry and for a few other needs (i.e. computer, vehicle).  I would really appreciate your special daily prayers for this fund raising trip.  If you know of a church that might let me come please let them know how to contact me.

Please don't forget to pray daily for the ministries of Esan Baptist Mission, especially for the radio ministry, but also for our correspondence school, tract and soul winning, preacher training, and for our 3 church plants in Udon, Nong Kai, and Dragon Town.

Yours for Thai and Laotian Souls,

John Henry
