December 2000 Prayer Letter

DECEMBER 2000 PRAYER LETTER

Dear Pastor and praying friends,

Greetings from Nong Kai, Thailand, gateway to Laos. We all pray that you have a prosperous new Millennium as you serve the Lord Jesus!

THE YEAR 2000 IN REVIEW:

Salavtions: During all the year of 2000 we led a total of 37 people to Christ on visitation and in services.

Moves: We moved to the Provincial Capitol of Udon from Chaiyaphum in February where we had been caring for Brother Dennis Catlin's work since August of 1998 (His work was averaging in the 50's when we left). In February Brother Sombaht also made a move to the Provincial Capitol of Nong Kai from the City of the Chief Dragon, a small Umper (county seat) in Nong Kai Province where he and I have been caring for a small group of believers for 7 years now. The rational for the moves were: 1) Nong Kai is less than an hour from both Udon, and the City of the Chief Dragon, and we can help each other in caring for the three works. 2) Nong Kai is closer to the radio stations that are capable of reaching into Vientiane, the Capitol of Communist Laos, a closed field.

Radio Ministry: In October we began our radio ministry by faith. The ministry was delayed almost 2 years while trying to get Sombaht's Radio / TV Announcer's License. Sombaht's half hour preaching broadcast, The Light of Life, has now been going out over the air waves every day at 6:30 PM for 3 months. The Light of Life goes into Vientiane, Laos, and 5 Thai provincial capitols, plus many surrounding towns and villages, a potential listening audience of over two million. This is an unbudgeted faith ministry, but by keeping the need before God's people God has provided just enough extra every month to cover the $355.00 cost for the air time. Please, please, please keep this need on your perpetual prayer list!!! At least 9 souls have been saved as a result of this ministry. Many we come in contact with tell us that they have listened to the program. We have received letters and phone calls, including from Laos, asking for visits and literature.

Another Move: In November we moved to Nong Kai to facilitate better working accommodations with Sombaht and his wife Oie, who helps with our correspondence school. We now have a cheaper place in Udon and average attendance has doubled there since the move. Working conditions have improved greatly. For those of you that may not know, I have been training and working with Brother Sombaht since I won him to Christ in early 1994 (we ordained him in July 1999), and we led Oie to Christ in January 1996. Several months thereafter I performed their wedding ceremony. They both love the Lord, are soul winners, good teachers, and have been a tremendous blessing to Sue and me.

PRAYER NEEDS:

Please pray for the following:

Som and Song's home schooling.

Sombaht and the Radio Ministry.

I am going to have to return to the States for a few months to raise funds for special needs (vehicle, computer, radio ministry, etc.) sometime in 2001.

Thai and Laotian souls, and for our church planting efforts.

That the Lord will keep us close to Him, and give us good health.

DECEMBER REPORT:

Halleluyah! We ended 2000 well! Our special birthday services for the Lord Jesus in Nong Kai and Udon resulted in 15 professions of faith!

We ministered to at least 70 people in our services during December. We had higher than normal numbers due to our special Christmas evangelistic services. Pray that a bunch of those that we reached will stick. The services averaged:

The City of the Chief Dragon averaged 12 with a high day of 14.

Nong Kai averaged 15 with a high day of 46.

Udon averaged 15 with a high day of 25.

Yours for Thai and Laotian souls,

John Henry

"But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."
