March / April 2000 Prayer Letter

Dear praying friends,

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Greetings from Thailand in the precious Name that is above every name.

March was our first full month here in Udon, having made the move from Chaiyaphum in Mid February. Sombaht and I now have 3 works to care for: our oldest work (6 years) in the City of the Chief Dragon (Noon Sawan) in Nong Kai Province, and our 2 new works in the provincial capitols of Udon and Nong Kai. Sombaht and I take turns going to conduct services out in Noon Sawan (Heaven Hill) on Saturdays. Since he moved to Nong Kai we moved the meeting house there back to the village of Noon Sawan to the house that my family once lived in. The rent is the same as when we lived there before: 500 Baht (about $14.00). It even has running water now, sometimes. We have 7 faithful members there, not counting Sombaht’s and my family.

MARCH REPORT:

THE WORK IN UDON: We had 5 men visit us in March. None received Christ. We had a high day of 9 on the 26th. The average for the month was 6 including our family.

THE WORK IN NONG KAI: Brother Sombaht has been out inviting folks, but it is slow going. There is one family in Nong Kai that are members, but they are migrant farm and construction workers, and have not been home lately. Sombaht averaged 4 or 5 on Sundays.

THE WORK IN THE CITY OF THE CHIEF DRAGON: We had the high day for the village work on the 25th with 21 (Adults: 12, Youth: 4, Kids: 5). We had an average of 10 on Saturdays for March.

APRIL REPORT:

SALVATIONS: April was a good month for us for salvations: 7 received Christ (4 out in the village work, 2 in another village, and 1 here in Udon). Two of the men, Bro. Gan (our first convert here in Udon), and Bro. Thoom (a young man from the Noon Sawan), who received Christ are scheduled to be baptized on May 6th out at our village work in the Mekong River which the boarder between Thailand and Communist Laos. Here is a list of names of those saved in April: 1) Mr. Gan (40 +), a salesman (former Thai AF safety officer) from Udon, 2) Mr. Thoom (23), an electronics maintenance apprentice from Noon Sawan, 3) Mrs. Lathree (20 +), a mother and house wife from Noon Sawan, 4) Miss Thorn (12), a student from Noon Sawan, 5) Mr. Thon (10), a student from Noon Sawan, 6) Mrs. Pah Li (50 ?) from Ban Prow, 7) Mr. Thom (13), a student from Ban Prow. Please pray often for our new converts. The peer pressure on them is tremendous.

VISITATIONS: Sombaht's wife's grandmother, Yai Li, suggested that we go witness to her daughter again. She lives in a village not far from Nong Kai City. On Monday, 10 April Sue led that lady and a 13 year old boy to the Lord. Sue and Oie also did some extra visitation in Noon Sawan, our village work, on the 19th and 20th. They spent the night with Mrs Uri, a long time member. They made a lot of visits and were able to lead a boy (10), and a girl (12) who, a few years ago, came regularly to church. One lady was very interested and seemed to be under conviction until some mockers arrived. We will follow up on her again later. Then on the 21st and 22nd Sombaht and I went out there. We did some visiting inviting folks to our Saturday services. One lady, Lathree, came and received Christ. The Seven Day Adventist Cult has already begun to try to draw her away. Sombaht has already confronted that cult leader. She may or may not be baptized on May 13th along with Gan and Thoom.

ATTRNDANCE: Here are the average attendances for the 3 works for April: Udorn: 8 (6 adults, and 2 youth). Nong Kai: 4 adults. Noon Sawn: 9 (6 adults, 1 youth, 2 kids).

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Please continue to pray for us and our ministry to these precious people. Pray that the Lord keep all of us close to Him, and give us a harvest of souls to train up into strong churches. Pray much that Sombaht be able to get on the radio there on the Laotian boarder too!!! Specifically pray that they set a date for him to take his radio test and that he pass it, and that more funds come in to finance this expensive ministry. Also pray for his vehicle costs. Pray for Som and Song’s home schooling. We covet your effectual fervent prayers.

Yours for Christ and Thailand,

John Henry

"But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." (Matthew 9:36-38)
