         Junior Handling

Junior handling started in the United States in 1932 at
the Westbury Kennel Club show. Back then it was usually the
'cute' handlers who won as the judges did not know what to look for.

In 1971 Junior Showmanship received reconition from the AKC
(American Kennel Club)and rules were standardized.

It was Joe Cartledge who brought handling to the UK.  Here you could
qulify for junior handler of the year at any show (including excemption).

However, the junior handler of the year was growing and so Joe cut out the
qualifying at excemption shows. Now days the junior handler of the year semi-finals
is held at Richmond championship show.
