Wolverine Blurbs

Last updated: 30 Apr 2010

By 'blurbs', I mean those little quick descriptions that they put at the beginnings of some comics to introduce the characters. Logan's change periodically - here are a few of them:

A mutant possessing the ability to heal rapidly, an indestructible adamantium skeleton, and retractable razor-sharp claws, Logan has been a secret agent, a samurai, and a super hero whose past remains shrouded in mystery.
(Wolverine 35)

Little is known about the X-Man whose past remains shrouded in mystery - save that it is fraught with pain and loss. Long ago, he was trained as a samurai in Japan; later, he became Weapon-X - a covert operative for the Canadian government. It was from there that Professor Xavier recruited Wolverine for his second class of X-Men.

Also called Logan, he is genetically endowed with animal-keen senses of smell, sight and hearing - as well as a healing factor that mends almost any wound quickly, and even retards his aging. However, along with these gifts there comes a curse - a berserker rage which he must forever struggle to control. His deadliest weapons are his razor-sharp, extendible claws, composed of the same dense bone as his skeleton.

Now, Wolverine is a man whose greatest fear is himself - a man who must contain the beast within while he battles to protect a world that fears and hates him!
(Wolverine 131)

Little is known of his past -- save that it was fraught with pain and loss. Long ago, he was trained as a samurai in Japan; later, he became Weapon-X - a covert operative for the Canadian government. Today, the man also known as Logan is an X-Man, using his animal-keen senses, healing factor, and razor-sharp adamantium claws to help protect a world that fears and hates mutants.
(Wolverine 173)

The deadliest mutant on the face of the earth, Wolverine is the perfect confluence of natural instinct and man-made weaponry. Born with heightened senses, razor-sharp claws, and a healing factor that renders him virtually indestructible, he's earned his reputation as a deadly force of nature.

Skilled in practically every fighting style on the planet, his lethal prowess is enhanced by a skeletal system and claws fused with the virtually unbreakable alloy Adamantium. As a member of the X-Men, he follow Xavier's dream and principles, protecting a world that fears and hates his very presence. As Wolverine, he seeks justice on his own terms.
(Wolverine 185)

You can call him mutant or animal or hunter or even Wolverine, he could care less. He's old enough to remember Teddy Roosevelt taking office, his bones are unbreakable, his senses are extraordinary, he regenerates injury at an inhuman rate, and his rage is unholy.

You can call him whatever you like. He calls himself Logan.
(Wolverine v3 2)

His name is Logan, and he is a mutant, with the power to heal almost any wound in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. His bones, laced with adamantium, are unbreakable. The three claws he can slide from each hand are made of the same material, perfectly sharp, and unerringly accurate. His senses are as acute as the most able predator.

There is a rage in him. It is wild, and savage, and fed by blood, and so unpredictable that he himself does not know when it will fall upon him. It is the rage of a cornered beast, of the wounded animal, and while it does not often roam free, it is always within him.

It shames him.
(Wolverine v3 7)

His name is Logan.

He is a hunter, and he pursues a very specific prey. He is not interested in law or procedure or process. His interest is justice - his own judgement, not any court's.

He is a mutant, feared and hated for his abilities, from his sense of smell to his near-miraculous powers of regeneration. He is a weapon, a proficient and nearly unstoppable killer, with unbreakable bones and six razor-sharp claws that can slice titanium like butter.

And he cherishes life, the way only a warrior can. He knows its flaws and ts trials, and he cherishes it still.
(Wolverine v3 9)

His name is Logan.

He is a hunter who hunts predators. He cuts the sickness from the pack, the illness that bleeds into society, which threatens to kill it by inches.

He is a mutant, and that makes the hunter hunted, pursued out of fear. His senses are sharper than the wolf's, the adamantium claws he wields can cut as cleanly as a laser, his body able to shrug-off and recover from the most grievous wounds imaginable.

And he struggles, fighting an animal rage that lives within him, that threatens to turn him from man to beast, and his better angels: to live with honor, and to act with the same; to protect the innocent, and punish the wicked.
(Wolverine v3 10)

His name is Logan.

He is a loner perpetually caught between worlds. A mutant in a world that fears mutants, a warrior in a world that shrinks from violence, a man of honor in a world that has no use for such things.

But his greatest conflict is not with the world, but with himself, and the raging beast that lives within him.
(Wolverine v3 11)

His name is Logan.

He was born different. Born a mutant. Heightened senses and a healing factor that allows him to shrug off and recover from almost any injury imaginable. With his senses and abilities, he was the ultimate hunter. And this would have been enough.

But there were people who wanted more. There were people who wanted a weapon.

And so they made him one. They gave him a skeleton that is virtually unbreakable, and clad his claws in a metal that could cut titanium like butter. These are the things they gave him.

In exchange, they took his memory.

But the core remains, and of all the battles Logan fights, the one with himself is the one that matters most. He is a mutant, a killer, a hunter, a warrior, and at times when the blood falls like rain, an animal.

But he is also a man, and he fights for that every day.

Yet everywhere he goes, he finds people drawing out the animal....
(Wolverine v3 13)

The mutant Wolverine has spent a century fighting those who would manipulate him for his unique powers - razor-sharp claws, heightened senses, and a healing factor capable of miracles. After repeated brainwashing, torture, and reprogramming, Wolverine's past was as much a mystery to him as to anyone. With those long-lost memories returned to him, Wolverine has set out on a mission to punish the conspirators who have wronged him.
(Wolverine: Origins 31)
