The Climate

We grew up in Canada in a cold temperate climate. Now we live in Belize and are very comfortable with the cool nights and mornings, the afternoon heat, and the lingering evening warmth. In the cooler five months of the year, 24°C is a normal day-time high dropping to 14°C by morning. In the warmer 7 months, 27°C is a normal day-time high dropping to 17°C by morning.

About half of the year I find I like to sleep with a cotton hat on as it can drop as low as 8°C on the coldest night.

For some reason, our part of Belize is not so hot. With a wide-brimmed hat, long sleeved thick cotton shirt, denim trousers, 2 pairs of cotton socks in rubber boots I can be outside working during the hottest part of the day. I sweat a lot, but I don't find the heat much of a hinderance. During our first year in Belize, the hottest afternoon came in May. At mid-day it was 33°C; less than many states in the USA.
