| Dino Sau (Lau Ching-Wan) is a brilliant motor mechanic, able to supply a Mini Cooper with an engine powered by atomic energy. So much for the subtle part. He falls in love with a beautiful, filfthy-rich girl (Cheung Man, naturally), but of course - she already has a boyfriend. Years later: Dino is rich, and he meets his beloved again. She is now married (to Michael "Fitzgerald" Wong, whose role is mercifully brief). He seeks the advice of an evil-minded guru, who implants him with dreams in which he can have his object of desire. Through the dreams, he loses all his wealth, but ... You'll see. Lee Lik-Chi is the director of FLIRTING SCHOLAR and other Stephen Chiao masterpieces, and he knows how to time comedy! A likeable if modest film, ROMANTIC DREAM maintains a light touch throughout (some "HK humour" excesses notwithstanding). | ||

If there is one HK leading-man plagued
with ugly hairdo in most of his
films,
it's Lau Ching-Wan during his 1994-97
career phase.

"It's because the car is great"
- How I love deeply-felt dialogue. Lau falls
in love with Cheung Man,
and - honestly - who wouldn't?

This great gag involves a flower
vase.
It is much more funny and suprising
than this still photo indicates.
One
of the moments from ROMANTIC
DREAM that will stay in your
memory.

An image out of one of Lau's "romantic
dreams". But you don't need
me to tell you that, do you?

Now: This looks much more real!
Because of his dreams, Lau
has a hard time business-wise.
|
|
|
Private affairs also get out of
hand.
If you like Lau Ching-Wan,
Cheung Man and romantic comedies
HK-style, you'll like
Lee Lik-Chi's ROMANTIC DREAM,
too!
