Deborah has been working with clay for approximately 10 years in Scarborough. She enjoys both throwing on a potter’s wheel and sculptural ceramics. Working with various types of stoneware clays and firing techniques, she is inspired most by nature.

.Deborah Johnston has been involved with hands-on creative activities since graduating from Centennial College in 1995, where she studied apparel Pattern Design. She developed her skills in ceramics through a series of studio courses taken at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre since 1998. Her interest in design also led her to explore watercolour painting at Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and Japanese Ink Painting at the Momiji Centre in Toronto. Since 2003 she has exhibited her work through pottery guild exhibitions and has taught courses in making Small Animal Sculptures. An image of her sculptural works was published in December 2006 in 500 Animals in Clay by Lark Books, New York, N.Y.
