Over the years the Atlantic region has enjoyed hockey at just about every level. We have had teams in the Junior A, B, and C divisions and beginning in 1994, teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League have called the Atlantic region home. We have had teams in the minor-pro American Hockey League (from 1972 to 2005), which many cities here hosted the top farm teams of many NHL teams. The region also had many teams in the senior division as well, which was very popular from the 1930's through the 1960's. In the 1990's the local university league, Atlantic Universiry Sport (formally the Atlantic University Hockey Conference), became the best conference in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (formally Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union). Halifax even hosted a few NHL neutral site games in the early 1990's, plus many centres have hosted preseason games and training camps. There was even a time in the early 1910's when teams from the Maritimes challenged for the Stanley Cup.
