Giant Dice - Put jelly beans in a zip lock plastic bag. Make giant dice by covering and marking cube-size tissues boxes. Everyone sits in a circle and pass and roll the dice until someone gets a seven or eleven. Then that person puts on mittens, opens the plastic bag, and takes out one jelly bean at a time. They can eat jelly beans until someone else rolls a seven or eleven. We have a lot of laughs with this game, and the girls really enjoy themselves.

We played "Count Off" which is in the 1997 Guiders Manual. Everyone sits in circle and closes their eyes. The object is to count to 10 following these rules:

The Pathfinders had fun with this game. Without discussing it, they started to work together, listening to each other and making a pattern until they finally reached number 10..

Mexican Police Officer (submitted by Shelagh Walsh Brownie/Pathfinder Guider/Arts Trainer, North Vancouver, BC, Canada) Simple, practically free (dried beans are cheap), a Mexican children's game, & lots of fun for all ages.

One person is the traffic police officer.  The players divide into teams. Each PERSON gets 3 dried beans (if the teams are unequal numbers, you could give each team 9 beans, so 2 people would have 4 & 5 beans, 3 people would have 3 beans each.)  Everyone except the traffic police officer are vehicles, cars, buses, trucks, maybe even helicopters or donkey carts. They mill around being vehicles until the traffic police officer holds up her hand "stop."  All vehicles freeze, anyone caught moving has to pay a fine of a bean.  At the end (5 minute time limit?) the team with the most beans wins.  After playing this a few times last night, it was decided the traffic police officer would actually yell the Spanish word for "stop" because people might be looking the other way.  It is difficult to be a good vehicle & watch the traffic police officer all the time. Even if you are lousy at this game & lose all your beans, the rest of your team might still have theirs, & you might still win!

Balloon Game From India - Brownies in India are called Bulbuls, after a cheerful, brightly colored bird. PROMISE: I promise to do my best: to do my duty to God and my country, To keep the Law of the Bulbul Flock, To do a good turn everyday.

Bulbuls sit in two lines facing each other. Each Bulbul's feet must touch those of the player sitting opposite to her. She must not move them during the game. The Flock Leader throws a balloon between the players and each side must try to hit it over the heads of the opposite line. If it touches the floor behind the line, it is counted as a goal to the team facing in that direction. After each goal, or if the balloon goes out at either end, the Flock Leader throws it again.

Try to find board games at flea markets and make a few changes so that they can be played by a large group. One of our favorite games is the based on the board game "$10,000 Pyramid" which we purchased for 50 cents at a yard sale. Becky's Guiding Resource Centre . You can always find our meeting room...just follow the sound of laughter (hahaha).
