How to Dance Salsa?

Stance

You can dance Salsa hand-in-hand (the man’s palms face upwards, and the woman takes his hands with her palms facing down). However, when in dance position, it is customary that the man takes the female’s right hand, and places his right hand on her left shoulder blade. The woman places her hand on his right shoulder, make sure her arm is over his arm. When dancing, give enough pressure to allow for movement, but don't be too aggressive.

Steps

1. Step forward with your left foot. Your weight should now be on your left, and you should be able to take your right foot off the ground (only move your right foot slightly). When beginning to dance, it is easier to take longer steps, however, do not make it a habit; it will affect your timing.

2. Shift your weight back from your left foot to your right, don’t move your feet. Your weight should be on the right foot. Now, take a step back with your right foot.

3. Bring your left foot back (slide/step). It should be next to or near your right foot. Your weight should now be on both feet.

4. At this point you will take a slight pause. Do not take any steps.

5. For this step, we will do the same thing we did for the 1, however, backwards. Step back with the right foot, weight should be on your right foot.

6. Step/slide with your left foot.

7. Bring your right foot forward (step/slide). Your weight should now be on both feet.

Repeat these steps with music! Or, check out the video if you need clarification.
