After graduation, I attended Rice Institute ( Now Rice University) in 1951.In 1952, I transferred from Rice to Southern Methodist University. In 1954, I meet and married my wife Betty.(see the picture below of our wedding).
In 1956, I graduated from S.M.U. with a bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and went to work for the man who had bought my father's company and where I ran the Engineering department. Unfortunately he went bankrupt in about 1 year and I then went to work for a company named Cameron Iron Works in their engineering department.Cameron designed and manufactured oil tool equipment for the drilling industry. After about 6 months, I ( with 2 other engineers)was selected to design a pipeline ball valve for the pipeline industry. While at Cameron, Betty and I had our son, Lad III ( in1961)and our daughter,Jill ( in 1962).
Upon completion of the design I took a position in the sales department of Cameron to teach their salesmen the sales and technical aspects of the newly designed ball valve.
In 1964, we were tranferred to Beziers, France ( see the picture below). Here I had the position of Sales Office Manager. I stayed in France for about 1 1/2 years, then quit to take a position as Vice President of Shafer vale Company in Mansfield, Ohio.Although we lived in Ohio I traveled all over the world. i.e. Russia, all of Europe, Egypt, Tel Aviv, Iran, Greece and Turkey. As a matter of fact, I have been around the world. In 1972, I was re-hire by Cameron Iron Works to direct a 3 plant operation ( Houston, Scotland and France) for a 30 million dollars order from the Russian Government. We moved back to Houston. Although we lived in Houston, I traveled many, many times to France, Scotland, Germany, and most of Europe. After working for Cameron, I went to work for a Mexican oil tool manufacturing company ( but continued to in in Houston)and then went to work for another oiltool manufacturing company in Houston. I retired in 1991 and now play on my computer most of the day.
