The work below took about a year to make with a few days of
intense effort per month. The image is similar to the wooden
paintings "retablos" of Jose Aragon who lived in New
Mexico about two centuries ago.
Here San Miguel is slaying evil. He is holding the scales of
justice and is impaling the blue-eyed serpent with his staff.
This picture is taken with the sun over my shoulder. The glass is
dark and the wood comes in clear.
Kathleen held this so that the sunlight could rain through
the glass. The colors are clearer and the wood is dark. This
affect is called "Painting with light". Miguel's halo
is silver stain and the sky is cobalt. Each piece has been fired
many times.
Here San Miguel stands proudly as a sentry in our dark cave
of a hallway. The reflective light from the ceiling shares
emotion with the glass. We now enjoy his company.
