Editorial: Tarot Ramblings

There is a very special series of classes being conducted by Ruth Ann and Wald Amberstone of the Tarot School during 2005. Entitled "Intuition and Imagery", the teleclasses discuss the imagery in the Tarot (the Rider-Waite deck specifically), and how to place it into a reading. These are interactive classes, held once a week for a two hour time period. Each session consists of four classes, with a two week spacing between each session. I attended the January/February session, and it very much expanded how I view the cards. I missed the February/March session, but picked the classes up again with the April session. (The first class was on the Moon - and there are cards that I was not even aware had the moon in them!) I have decided to do an ongoing review of the classes - somewhat of a review/blog, which could end up being very interesting! The blog can be seen here:Intuition and Imagery. I hope that you enjoy the blog, and that you decide to join in the classes! (To see when the classes are being offered, click here www.TarotSchool.com/Seminars.html).

Gina Pace is renovating her site, Wicce's Tarot, and has the beginnings of her on-line book that will accompany her Pagan Tarot deck. For now, there is only a Table of Contents, but this is worth keeping track of, if you have this deck, or are contemplating purchasing it. The link to this specific page is: Wicce's Tarot Collection .

A project worth keeping track of - "The See of Logos", a 32 card deck due out in the summer of2005 from Magic Realist Press in conjunction with Rachel Pollack. More information here: www.magic-realism.com/seeoflogos.html.

Volume IV of The Encyclopedia of Tarot (by Stuart Kaplan) will be published in Summer 2005 and features another 850 tarot decks not included in the previous volumes.

Part of my path right now consists of attending a very unique series of classes. Developed by Dawn Falbe www.astrologerdawn.com, this ten week series of classes is aimed at helping women develop their metaphysical based businesses. Through a weekly teleclass, homework, and a related Yahoo Groups e-group, class members learn skills that help them define their business, set and meet goals, and manifest the success that lies within them.

I am going to be reviewing this class on an ongoing basis. If you are interested, and would like more information, please visit Dawn's sitewww.astrologerdawn.com, or e-mail her at dawnfalbe@earthlink.net. My blog of these classes can be seen here: The Complete Metaphysical Practitioner COurse.

There are two absolutely wonderful workshops being held in Rhinebeck, New York this June. It is close to twenty years now that Tarotists Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack have shared themselves and their marvelous insight into the Tarot with the Tarot world. This years classes are as follows:

TAROT PLAY (June 12-17, 2005)

From its earliest days the Tarot has been a game as much as an instrument of wisdom. Come explore the Tarot's playful side, symbolized in the card of the World, with its dance of cosmic energy known as "divine play". The childlike Fool card at the very beginning of the deck shows us that the journey begins by being willing to play-to take the leap. In this workshop/playgroup, we will use the Tarot creatively: in imaginative writing, visualizations, movement, drawing, games and gambling, as well as with new spreads and processes. Through play we will explore personal life-issues such as relationships, self-healing, right-livelihood, and dreams. The Tarot cards provide a safe and supportive context for the emergence of the deep feelings that cloak our wisdom. Join us in the joy of spontaneous creation as we remake our world with the images of life's wonderment.

Tarot and the Tree of Life (June 17-19, 2005)

For nearly 250 years Tarotists and Kabbalists have been exploring the similarities between the cards and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. The connections are surprising and very strong. In this workshop we will look at the Tree and the Tarot from both the Jewish and magickal traditions. Rachel and Mary will focus on ways we can use these traditions to discover our own meanings and our own pathways. How do we understand our personal lives through the great Tree of Life? Just as a living Tree continues to grow so do we, and using the Tree and the cards can Crown our own growth with Wisdom and Understanding.

For more information, and to sign up for the courses, please visit: Omega: Tarot Play, Omega: Tarot & The Tree Of Life. Please note: although these two workshops appear to overlap, they do not. The morning of the 17th is devoted to the Tarot Play workshop; the evening of the 17th is devoted to the Tarot & The Tree of Life workshop.

There is a huge bonus to attending this workshop: Rachel Pollack will be showing original artwork from the Shining Tribe Tarot, and from one of her new projects!

From the April 15th ATA e-newsletter, there is a very interesting segment with Rickey Hite answering questions about the ATA. Here is the direct link: Reflections - Down The Rabbit Hole.

From the illustrious Arnell Ando, we have a new website dedicated to il Meneghello, and Italian Tarot artist and deck publisher Osvaldo Menegazzi. Cool zodiac adn Tarot shadow boxes, and sooooo much more. This is a well done site, rich in content and well as color. Sigh ... I need a bigger pocket book! The site can be seen here (plan to stay awhile - it is gorgeous!): www.arnellart.com/osvaldo

A new Tarot deck from Caitlin Matthews is due out this September from Connections Publishing. Entitled the Da Vinci Enigma Tarot, bases on artwork from Leonardo Da Vinci. For more information, see: www.connections-publishing.com/product_info.asp?productid=143

Interview: Interview With Mary K. Greer & Rachel Pollack

For close to twenty years, the Omega Institute in upstate New York has been graced with seminars given by Tarot legends Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack. This June will see the hosting of two new seminars: "Tarot Play" (June 12th - 17th), and "Tarot and the Tree of Life" (June 17th - 19th). There is an amazing continuity here, a coming together of two dedicated, inspired teachers who gift the Tarot world with their grace, humor and intellect, and allow us to grow in our knowledge of ourselves and of the Tarot.

Mary and Rachel both graciously agreed to be interviewed, so I will now be quiet and let them have the stage!

BC: A lot of years have been put in here! How did the partnership between East coast and West coast ever come about?

MKG: Actually it began as a meeting of the USA and Europe. I was invited to teach at an Amsterdam center called De Kosmos. Rachel, who lived in Amsterdam at the time, taught a weekly class which I attended. We enjoyed being able to share our love of Tarot and other interests. Then, the second year I taught at Omega, Rachel was visiting her father in Poughkeepsie and so I invited her to visit the class.

BC: What made you decide to make this an annual event?

MKG: The year after Rachel visited the Omega class she returned to the US and was in the process of moving to Rhinebeck, where Omega is located. I proposed to Omega that we both teach the class-afterall it was an opportunity for the students that was just too good to miss. We've been doing it ever since, including at other locations like a similar workshop in the Los Angeles area the weekend of June 3-5 (contact Barbara Rapp at continued

Spread: Memorial Day

Memorial Day (May 30th for the year 2005) is the day each year when we honor those who lost their lives in service of our country. (An interesting aside here that popped up when I was researching this article - several southern states have established their own separate day when they honor their own dead from the Civil War.)This is a topic that is hard for me to talk about. Every era has their "war" - mine was the Viet Nam war. Do not try and tell me that was not a war, because it was. I was serving in the Army at the time, but was never in country (not that I would not have gone - even as a Medical Technologist, I was not allowed to go because I was female). I was old enough to see the before, during and after politics and personal tragedies. War leaves many wounds, physical and psychological, some of which will never heal.

In the United States, we wear red poppies (paper version!) on this day to honor the blood that has been shed. Will you be wearing a red poppie? What will it mean for you? Do you fly our flag on this day? Do you visit a cemetery near you and honor the war dead - whether they are related to you or not? Do you place flags on your veterans graves?

Another interesting fact that I happened across in my research was that the 3rd U.S. Infantry places small American flags on each of the more than 260,000 graves at Arlington National Cemetery on the Thursday before Memorial Day. They then patrol 24 hours a day during the weekend to make sure that the flags remain standing.

A "National Moment of Remembrance" was established in December of 2000 that asks all Americans to stop what they are doing at 3 pm local time and honor the war dead in their own fashion.

How can we define how we see this day, and what it means to us. There is no end to war - the location moves, but the motivation remains. How can we resolve this within ourselves, and honor our dead? The following spread is what I came up with to help me focus on my issues. Your issues will be different, but it may also be helpful for you.

1. In what way can I honor those that lost their lives in war?
2. What does this loss of life mean to me?
3. What does the loss of life in a war have to teach me?
4. In what way can I keep the spirit of those who died alive?
5. This card represents the Seeker, and how they are affected by the cards surrounding them.

Interview: Interview With Dawn Falbe

I have known Dawn for several years now (having first met her when we both served on the ATA Board). She is a high energy lady who has a very broad view of the metaphysical field, its practitioners, and the opportunities for solid metaphysically based businesses (i.e. the ability to make a good living from your metaphysical skills and abilities).

Dawn uses Astrology, Tarot, and Coaching in her practice, and has developed Teleclasses, e-courses and audio material to support her work. She also can be heard on a variety of radio stations across the country.

There is so much to talk about with her work, that I am going to give her the floor right away!

~~~~~
BC: Dawn, before we go into the work that you are doing, please tell us about your own background, and how you got to be where you are at this point in your life.
DF: From age 16, which is when I left school in England until 30 I worked for other people. I worked in the UK and the USA in the corporate world of banking, law, real estate and escrow!! I was in sales and marketing in some of my positions and this was good training to have my own business. When I turned 30 I decided the time had come to work for myself. With only $750 in the bank and no job I embarked on becoming on working in a consulting position with various companies. I did this for about 8 years until I gave birth to my first son. Once he was born I decided that I had to have a business of my own that was more flexible around my family. Here's the amazing story of what happened next.
One Sunday I was picking up the newspaper that my 11 month old son had ripped apart. It was one of his favorite things to do with the newspaper. Whilst doing this chore I looked up to the ceiling and said "God you have to show me what to do so that I feel I'm following a path and so that I don't have to put my son in daycare" I bent down to pick up the newspaper and there was an ad to work on a Psychic Line. I thought to myself "well I guess this is the answer and this is what I'm supposed to do" That was nearly 10 years ago and a lot has changed since then.
BC: There are two headers on your site that intrigue me: "Discover Your Soul Purpose", and "Welcome to a new way of looking at your life". For me, they epitomize your work. How did you come to define the essence of these two statements?
